Do Spices Really Expire

Do Spices Really Expire

I was recently helping a friend move, we were unpacking her kitchen. I suggested that we check the 'best by' dates on her spices before putting them in her brand new kitchen. My friend immediately looked at me with a huge smile and said, "Julie, spices don't expire!" She picked up the parsley, and sure enough, 'best by Nov. 2011.' Her face was priceless! We started going through everything in her kitchen, from vanilla extract to Pam non-stick spray.

Needless to say, check your expiration dates twice a year! You may be surprised what is no longer good.
Of course, some items are still safe to eat after this date, but they may not have the same flavor.

Bon Appetit!
